It
will take approximately 2-3 months to receive a passport from
South Africa
Please
take note:
The
Department of Home Affairs in South Africa does the processing
of passports. The Embassy only receives passport applications
on behalf of the Department of Home Affairs and has no
influence over the time that Home Affairs has stipulated for
such applications to be processed –2/3 months.
Given
the fact that passports, once issued, have to be returned to
the Embassy via the secure diplomatic bag which travels
between South Africa and the Mission once every three weeks,
the process may take up to 3 months to complete.
The
Mission receives numerous enquiries and requests from South
Africans who need their passports for various urgent reasons
after two months or so. There is very little, if anything, the
Embassy can do to speed up the process and therefore we
urge you to apply well in advance.
One
suggestion that may assist is to apply for a temporary
passport, which can be issued by the mission, after 5-7
working days, while the application for permanent passport is
being processed in South Africa.
