Registration of South African Death

Obtain the official death certificate or other similar document issued by the authority concerned. If the certificate is in English an Arabic translation will be required.
An authorised officer at the Mission would complete the death register.
The official death and the original death register is submitted to the Director-General of the Department of Home Affairs, Pretoria.
A proof of notice of death is then issued to the informant.

The Director General should register the death once the documents mentioned above have been received by Head Office. He would also issue a death certificate and submit the certificate to the informant. The first issue of a death certificate is free of charge.
